Written by David, Israel’s ‘beloved singer of songs’ (2 Samuel 23:1), Psalm 23 is one of the most widely distributed pieces of literature on earth. It has been set to countless songs, both past and present, and is the subject of numerous pieces of artwork. The Hebrew Scripture book of 2 Samuel records David as saying “The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me; his word was on my tongue…”
So often the Scripture in Ephesians 4:15, “speaking the truth in love” is used as a tug-of-war by two opposing sides. Should we speak the “truth” to people (usually the speaker is referring to a hard and difficult truth they want to convey) or, should we just “love” people. The arguments on the two sides go this way: Side One: “If we really love them we will tell them this hard truth.” Side Two: “Love is more important than anyone’s version of truth”.
Today, be grateful for the knowledge that, no matter the news we see and hear, the world has not succumbed completely to darkness and that people who cherish light and goodness are still believing, still striving, still helping each other and standing up for each other. Pray that all of us will choose to defend and honor one another. That we will live in the light. That we will choose, both individually and corporately, the ways of light.
Jesus said, "the one who follows me… will have the light of life." (John 8:12)
